The organic vegetables and fruits that you see here have been hand-planted and are all grown without pesticides.
As you may know, Isola delle Rose is a man-made island that came into existence in 1870. Due to its position between the lagoon and the sea, as well as the marine currents that generate a mild and cool microclimate, the island boasts a wealth of plants that cannot be found anywhere else in Venice. This includes an olive grove with a hundred trees from which we produce our own olive oil.
Our soil, rich with minerals and nutrients, gives our vegetation a unique and distinctive flavor. Here at Isola delle Rose, we are a sustainable business and most of the vegetables and fruits that are grown in this garden are featured on the Fiola at Dopolavoro Venezia menu as side dishes or for vegetarian and vegan dishes. Also, the olive oil from our trees is exclusively served at our Michelin-starred restaurant. Used coffee grinds from the hotel are made into a rich fertilizer that is integrated into the soil.
Into our vegetable garden we planted more than 25 types of seasonal vegetables and fruits including lettuce, green onions, tomatoes, chicory, strawberries, apricots and cherries.
